Skill Level: Beginner

Materials:

  • Maroon pillowcase and queen-size sheet
  • Scissors
  • Chalk marking pencil
  • 4 yards of black felt
  • Ruler
  • Hot-glue gun
  • Silver fabric paint pen
  • 3 yards rope
  • 5-foot-long stick
  • Package of cheesecloth
  • Black fabric dye
  • Mixing bucket
  • Plastic skull
  • Rubber snake
  • Sweat suit
  • Face paint and fake beard

Directions:

  1. Fold sheet in half crosswise; cut hole in center of fold large enough to place over head. Put sheet on.
  2. Mark curved neckline on sheet, curving line down from back of neck to lower front edge of sheet. At about wrist level, mark cutting line, tapering down at an angle to several inches above ground. Mark back length of sheet several inches aboveground.
  3. Remove sheet. Cut along marked lines to form cape.
  4. Cut two 2✕20-inch ties from excess sheet; glue to front neckline on each side.
  5. Cut felt into 3-inch-wide strips; glue to all edges of cape.
  6. Cut two lightning-bolt shapes from black felt; glue to arm area of cape.
  7. To make hood, cut along one side seam of pillowcase from hem edge to point, cutting in a curve.
  8. About 6inches from hem edge, cut a row of small holes 2 inches apart for drawstring, starting and ending 3 inches from cut edge. Cut a 1✕30-inch strip from excess sheet; thread in and out of holes.
  9. Glue felt strips to all edges of hood.
  10. Using paint pen, draw designs on felt trim and lightning bolts on cape and hood.
  11. Dye cheesecloth black; let dry. Cut into strip sand pull threads to shred edges. Drape cheesecloth over stick. Glue skull to top; wrap and glue snake around lower portion of stick.
  12. Dress in sweat suit; tie rope around waist. Place cape and hood on.Paint face and apply beard as desired.
