There's something about the very specific numbers of other people's sex lives that is really fascinating. In many ways, it's a comparison game: Are other people having sex more than I am? What's normal? When should I be concerned for my own relationship? Just last week, research found the length of time for how long sex typically lasts. Today brings discovery of the ideal frequency of sex per week for maximum happiness.

A new study from the University of Toronto examined the association between sexual frequency and well-being. They learned that while most of us would assume a linear relationship—the more often you have it, the happier you are—this isn't the case, especially if you're in a relationship. In fact, numbers show that well-being plateaus after just one sexual episode a week.

Their subsequent research, this time of couples only, showed the same thing: People's satisfaction with their relationship doesn't increase along with their frequency of sex.

Of course, if you want to have sex more often than that (or less often, for that matter), go nuts. But it's interesting to note that the more isn't always the merrier. One and done is actually pretty great.
