The 31 Best Gifts for 3-Year-Olds to Fuel Their Imaginations
These toys are everything toddlers and parents could ever want: fun, safe, and captivating.
So, you have a three-year-old on your gift list. What are the toys you should get a toddler or preschooler for Christmas? Baby gifts are out, because they need to start developing skills that require logic, creativity, and role play. At the age of three, they're no longer just stacking blocks. Three-year-olds are using their imagination and need a little more action. When it comes to the best toys for 3-year-olds, there are a few factors to consider.
Woman's Day spoke to Jenn Lynch, toy trends specialist with The Toy Association, for recommendations on what to look for when shopping for toys and gifts for 3-year-olds.
What to look for when shopping for toys for 3-year-olds:
"This is a magical age, where it’s all about encouraging a child’s curiosity and fueling their little imaginations," Lynch says. She recommends open-ended toys, because they encourage role play and creative play. Toys that enhance fine and gross motor skills are a great option, too.
"This is also a critical age for helping manage emotions and show kindness toward others — things that are certainly on the minds of many parents of pandemic-era toddlers," according to Lynch. "For this, look for toys and games that encourage kids to understand and express their big feelings." Think: storybooks that come with a "reading buddy" plush, or diverse toys that expand the toddler's view of the world and, in turn, teach them empathy.
